The current platform for the DSC system is the new Powerseries, introduced in the fall of 2006, and is now the direction in which DSC is going. The 832/864 platforms are now augmented by the PC1832NK, PC1864NK platforms. The 832/864 platforms are still available and shipping, but you may wish to reconfigure the kits below to port to these new platforms. Mix and Match Motherboards/Keypads. The new keypad numbers are: PK5508Z, PK5516Z, PK5500Z, and so on. They display messages in either English, French or Spanish. Pricing for these new motherboards and keypads is all over the map, as DSC is running specials every month and my pricing goes up and down to reflect these specials. For example, as I write this, the new 1864 is cheaper than the 864, but the 1832 is more than the 832. If you want to upgrade to the newer platform when you order a kit, include this request in the 'Special Instructions' section of the order form and I will adjust pricing accordingly If you are looking at the 832 series, then consider the 864 series, the motherboard is about 20$C more expensive, but you then have a more current DSC platform. All new modules are ported to the 864 and not always the 832, which is now a good 10 years old. If however you want to slap in a box and call it a day, the 632/832 series is the ticket.
A word of advice. If you are installing a system into a pre-wired house, or you plan to pull your own wire, then assemble the panel first on a bench, with short runs of wire to the contacts, motions, zone expanders, keypads and so on and get the system up and running. THEN move it over to the installed wiring harness. You will save time. Also, depending upon your budget and requirements, the 5500z LCD Keypad is a lot more friendly than the others when it comes to programming the panel. For those of you that want to connect you computer to the panel to program it, which allows you to save an image of the panel on your PC, then you will need a serial cable. I'll give you the software for free
You may wish to upgrade your panel, add some more motions, contacts, or other items.

This is the entry level kit. It will do 6 zones on the motherboard, 2 zones on 2 keypads and up to 32 Wireless Zones if you add the wireless receiver. If you have an application that is very basic, such as a small house, office, cottage, then this is the alarm panel, drop it in, done | |||

This is the same as KIT1 above, but it has a Liquid Crystal Display Keypad, a higher bling factor than the 5508 in the kit above. Other than that, its the same kit. You can replace the Main Panel with the new PC1616NK, same price as the old PC1555NK | |||

The 832, and now the new PowerSeries 1832 are the backbone of the DSC product line. Up to 32 Zones, 8 on the main board. To get the rest you have to add zone expanders. Either way, you have a fully functional, does more than you wiull want it to do alarm system with the Idiot light keypad. Upgrade the battery to the RB712. Wireless can be added by adding a wireless receiver keypad | |||

This is the second most popular kit. This is for the person that wants all of the features, even if they dont want to use them, It comes with the LCD keypad, and a 64 zone panel. If you are putting in a major system, this is the panel to get as the cost difference between this and the 832/1832 is not worth talking about. Get the best, deal with it | |||
WireLess Ready Keypad |
