FREE SOAP ON ORDERS OVER 500$ Here we are again on the bleeding edge of Internet selling, yes a FREE bar of handmade soap with every order over 500$C. This bar of soap is worth 3$, and handmade by a skilled artisan, my son. He has to sell 75,000 bars to pay for his university education. The pressure is on. |
Welcome to one of the more mundane sites on the web, but it works, has a sense of humour and feeds my kids. If you have any questions, send me an email Doug Harper or give me a phone call at 905-294-6473. For a really secure order, send a fax to 905-471-6322 and save 5%
Yes, taking the plunge and moving over to a webstore format. Although boring, it seems to be the way to go. So I've got the beta site going, loaded it with smoke detector bits and currently adding about 150 access control pieces not found on the rest of this site.
Leviton Vizia products have been added to the List, they are now certified for sale in Canada If you are in the Toronto area, and want Vizia specified, drop me an email and I can have a specifier on your job site, talk about service !

Small security stuff like locks, tempers, stickers have gone up a lot in the last month, contacts are the same price Leviton is fine with a 2-3 week fill on large orders. They have discontinued the 6312 timer, none in the US, I got the last 7 Ivories, whites are gone. A real workhorse timer, no replacement. X-10 has pulled out of Canada and is shipping out of the US. The lights are off at their Ontario office. This is resulting in shipping delays and order filling issues, 1-2 weeks on large orders. Smokes, not a problem, BUT 3 week delay on for COS2010 dual monoxide/smokes 120vac. good supply of ESA5011's Hope all is well, Cool summer this year here, lots of rain, but then thats why we have all this water. Later.
DSC is doing a recall on the Version 1.11 keypads RF5501 and RF5508 they have out in the marketplace. This should make for some special prcing on RF kits as people try to dump them: Recall
During times of economic restraint we all have to cut back, so we are doing our part: we no longer sell Smarthome products, in fact there shoud be a sale soon of smarthome inventory
A little note on the exchange rates on this site: We are a Canadian Company, located in Canada, eh, which for those of you that have never heard of us we are a peaceful nation, just a little north of the United States. We are the home of Santa Clause and fresh water. All invoices are in Canadian dollars. Your Invoice will show Canadian Dollars. If you live outside of Canada, your credit card company will do the exchange rate to your currency. We post on this site U.S. dollars and Euros, BUT due to the rapid fluctautions in the currency market these days and my mickey mouse web site, the numbers we show may not be the exact exchange rate, If in doubt, verify.
As the world economies are going in the toilet, we are starting to get in a lot of realy small orders, like 5$ for example. We have now started to add a 5$ Handling fee to orders below 25$C. This is an effort to pay for the cost of putting whatever it is you have ordered in a box, wrapping it up, putting on a label and so on. Although some of you think we can just wrap some tissue paper around a smoke detector or a a circuit board and slap it in the mail, the real world says it will get damaged. For example how many broken CD's have you received in the mail ?
The Moon |
Always thinking.... So I'm sitting here a few days ago listening to the radio to hear that Eastern Europe has defaulted on their loan to Western Europe, to the tune of 1.5 Trillion $US, which is a boatload, but how big a boatload is it ? So I emptied my pockets and pulled out 1.85$ in hard earned cash. One of the coins was a loonie(dollar), if we used our loonie as the payment, just how many loonies would this be if they were piled on top of each other ? Lets start with a the default amount 1,500,000,000,000 $ US, or about 2,000,000,000,000 $C. With 1,000,000 mm to the kilometer, the pile would be 2,000,000 km high, but since the loonie is 2mm thick, the pile would be 4,000,000 km high, or for our non-metric readers, using American dollars, the pile would be about 2 million miles high, now if you recall, the moon is about 250,000 miles away. So then I thought, how much metal would the Government of Canada have to mine to make this pile of loonies ? Well, a loonie weighs about 7 grammes, so we would need to hack out of the ground about 14,000,000,000,000 grammes of metal, or about 14 million metric tonnes of metal, or a little more than half the total mass of the moon. Again, for our non-metric viewers, its about half the mass of the moon. Do you get a funny feeling that something just ain't right ?

October, when little childrens minds turn to eating tons and tons of low grade candy. About 45 days from now your dentist is ging to make a killing.
October 1st: So I arrived at the office this morning, sparked up the computers, popped up my email software and everything just disappeared in front of my eyes, excellent start to the month. So, if we had a conversation in progress....send me an email and remind me what we were talking about........
September was a fun month, especially as companies in Canada are trying to waffle-wiggle their way out of the price spread now that the U.S. and Canadian Dollar is at par. Makes you kind of wonder what NAFTA is all about. I could mention some specifics here but my suppliers would get very upset, so lets just say they appear to be working at it.
For those of you in Ontario getting ready to vote for a new provincial leader my only wise words, other then they are all a bunch of self serving candy assed toads is "Vote early, Vote often"
X-10 Has announced price changes on their product line effective October 2007, interesting concept considering the
state of the U.S. dollar, I was expecting prices to drop 15-20%, silly me I guess

September specials are in. Generators have been deleted from our system. Some items you can sell on the web and some items you can't.
September, a period of much merriment as the kids go back to school. Summer has now ended here in Canada, Real men are out greasing up their snow mobiles.....Got the September Specials in, got to put it up. Pricing is pretty close to actual as shown, adding more pictures. Losing 5% for 'no pictures' is killing me. If you have a question.... e-me.
Just thinking: IF the Russians actually do claim the North Pole as theirs then what happens to Santa ? Dual Citizenship ? Will he still get the Canada Pension ? And you came here for Alarm Panel Information !

WANTED OLD 6308's
Now we all know that Leviton made a classic blunder by dropping the production of the 6308 Photo Cell
in a rather awkward way this year......
If you have an old 6308 or several, intact, send me email,I would like to purchase them Doug Harper 6308 |
Don't think all these speling mistakes are due to a lack of command of the old Websters, but thnk more of it as Dougs special shorthand
X-10 is having a contractor sales, buy any two kits, save a boatload X-10 Promo
X-10 Canada is running a special on their test kits, spend 1000$ on X-10 and get a FREE test kit, worth over 200$ X-10 Test Kit FREEBEE(ppt)
Lot of things going on this summer. Going Crazy, may take a day for me to get back to you via e-mail. With the exchange rate on the U.S. dollar getting closer, most of my hard coded U.S. $ conversions are off. All Currencies shown in Canadian $ are valid, and is what we bill out at. Been having some delays shipping smoke detectors to the US. We ship US Priority Mail equivalent, but as smokes are radio-active they appear to be getting delayed crossing the border, they are arriving, but sometimes they appear to take an extra week
This is good, LEVITON VIZIA RF products, that I know some of you have been calling about. They are NOT available in Canada, BUT if you buy them from the US, from my competition, they have Canadian CSA stampings on them. Send an E-mail to Leviton Canada and ask them what the deal is
Did you know that the new DSC alarm panels will call your cell phone and tell you what zone has gone off ? Their panels are getting more progressive

August 2007 X-10 is changing their product mix, the PHT01 Timer is now replaced with the XPMT1 Timer The XPT area controllers have been changed X-10 Pro Flyer XPT changes - do not mix old and new The current status of this in July 2007 is that X-10 is out of inventory on both the old style and the new style, a fun strategy. Quantities of either do not exist. If you need one, or want a better product, get the Leviton originals, called the 16400 series, found in the DHC Price List They came up with the idea, X-10 copied it, main body and faceplate The leviton product, as you would expect is a better overall product, will outlive the X-10 XPT series, and it ha lights in it. But, you might like the Smarthome version of an area controller 2486D X-10 Pro List |
Listed down this page is a collection of DSC alarm sales and technical tips, which unless you scrolled down this page you would not even know they exist. The new 1832/64 panels have been designed so that they can call a phone, such as your cell phone and let you know when your alarm has trigged, and notify you what zone has tripped. Neat little add-on feature Telephone Notification
Welcome to July, Hope everybody in Canada had their flag out, ate back bacon and drank to much beer on the weekend, and cleared the snow off the drive To those of you in the U.S. I hope you all have your flags ready, apple pie on the table, and a bottle of J.D. ready.
Running like a chicken with its head cut off, going as fast as I can, most items are shipped the same day they are ordered, other than Leviton, which takes 4 days to get in. Shipments of smokes to the US appear to be having some delays, but they do not get lost. I suspect the delays are due to the fact they are radio-active and may be tripping some sensors at the border
DSC is now shipping the IT-100 units, I have them in stock
For those of you in Toronto and area, last weekends thunderstom took out your alarm panel when the power was restored. No kidding, now is the time to replace your little minimal 4 amp hour battery with a new 7 amp hour. I'm not going to go into a rant about why, just do as I tell you, and no, I do not have a store, you cannot pick one up, freight 5$, GTA Get this battery Don't fry your panel
Not seen any Z-WAVE OR IT-100 units, everything else is stable. For those of you using air conditioning systems, if you go down into the basement where the furnace is and the room is really cold AND the furnace when running air is going 'whoof' 'whoof' , then get your furnace cleaned, it means the 'A' frame is clogged. Save a boatload of electrical costs. Free information here folks
Went shopping on the web yesterday for some car parts. It's a scary place ! and I own this web site !! Confidence is not high on some of these sites. I'm amazed at how many companies do not ship to Canada, and for sure they do not know the international shipping game. Some disclaimers are totally scary, got to wonder at times, well, I do, which brings me to this site, totally secure, happy and honest, all email replied to, prompt friendly telephone service some days, other days, so-so. Pricing charged as shown, low freight charges, no duty/taxes into the U.S. Shipments to offshore North America, about 5 days. When you get your Visa statement our company name is listed, not 12689 Inc. I'm a one man show, got a question ? call me @ 905-294-6473. I may not be in my office or near a computer, but though the magic of cell phones we can talk, I carry a pencil and paper, good to go. Cheers
June, 2007, our 20th year of business has started, no longer a teenager. This is a good reason to party for the year. Will think of something OK, hows this, if you have purchased from us before - and we know who you are, 10% OFF, at least for June, everybody else, regular price. Running out of Girl Guide cookies. Got the security sales in, not posted them, really busy, moving as fast as I can, e-mail a couple of days behind. We have 2 seasons here, winter and summer. Once minute you are in your igloo and bam, the igloo is gone and the countryside explodes with life. With the Canadian dollar on the rise to the US dollar, my pricing out out of whack by a couple of points. Smarthome products, to Canadians, has dropeed in price, the smoke detectors, to the Us are higher than posted. Will correct this month.
The big guy from X-10 just dropped off this PowerPoint Program that explains X-10 to you, 10M in size, all yous X-10 PowerPoint Catalog
The DSC IT-100 will be shipping later this month, or thats the story, about 100$C

May in Southern Ontario is the month where we go from Winter right into Summer. Spring lasts about 35 minutes. To celebrate this
I have the X10-Pro 220V 20Amp wall switch on sale. Use this to control your pool pump. A 1hp pool pump will cost you a little over 1$ a day to operate
Put this switch in to turn your pump off at night, on in the morning. Will pay for itself in a matter of days, 20Amp switching capacity @
220VAC. Converting your pump over to 220 from 110 will make the pump run smoother, cooler, cheaper, last longer, 2 year warranty

May. If can read this you made it. Congratulations. Working on this months iteration of the website, The Canadian dollar is stronger, or the U.S dollar is weaker. Guess it depends on ones perspective, redoing the currency conversions, Smarthome price are therefore lower. Going as fast as I can
Leviton Canada will be shipping their new Z-wave family at the Start of May, Well thats what they said in April, which has now been pushed out to June
For those of you in Southern Ontario, that hot yellow thing in the sky is called the sun, no, it's not the moon burning
With the high cost of electricity, global warming, and the population of North America getting older, I'm amazed that people are not into the automation of their houses. X-10 Sales are lower now than they were 20 years ago. I could go on for hours about this, but won't. Simple control of lighting and heating systems can greatly reduce your energy bill, and make your life a lot easier. I have had a computer running my house for over 20 years, we never touch a wall switch, motion activated, event driven, nothing radical. You will not see my house in a magazine, not into flash. Simple, basic, walk into the stair well to the basement, lights go on, walk out of a room, lights go off, go to bed/leave the house, house shuts down. Simple, basic, low energy bills. We do not wear sweaters in the winter, or sit in the dark. Why have the lights on in the basement when you are not there ? Perhaps people just like paying the utility companies.

NEW, ALMOST HEREDSC GSM GS3055I Communications
This is so new the paper is still warm

When designing a security system, keep in mind one of the first places an intruder goes is to the side of the house to cut the phone lines. Usually they cut every cable they can find: Phone, TV, Satellite, a real mess. But YOU are smarter. If at all possible, relocate these cables so they are hidden, in a pipe, in the ground, someplace where they would not expect to find them. Then in the location where they should be, run a set of dummy cables that are actually connected as zones to the alarm panel. In this way, when they cut the cables, the alarm goes off. Put a siren nearby. They will cut the lines before they touch the siren, you could of course fool them all with the above wireless dialer 3055I
Many thanks for the contributions last month to Dougs Bugatti Veyron Sports car fund. Through offering free freight with only a 1$ donation to the fund I have collected enough money to purchase a windshield wiper blade, only 1,199,832 orders to go

The Vinyl Cafe
"We may not be big, but we're small."
This is a serious site, but after 20 years of doing this, I'm having fun. Sarcastic comments, typos, spellling mistakes are the norm. A basic site, 8923 items listed, 2 Million lines of code, fill in the blanks order form. Some items have pictures, some don't. You get 5% off if there are no pictures. Items are shipped via the Postal System, insured, with a tracking number. It's the best way to ship boxes anywhere, no duty/taxes upon entry to the U.S.
Several of you have been asking for the New PowerSeries PC1832, PC1864 Manuals in French. They do not exist, DSC is working on it and have said they wll forward them to me when they become available

PK5590CL: Vapourware Are you are looking for the new DSC PK5590CL touch screen keypad, pictured in the DSC catalog ? Well, DSC discontinued it. What I was told is that they negotiated a contract with a supplier who could not deliver the goods so DSC dropped it, after the catalogs went to print. I'm sure they are working on it, but thats the current scuttlebut, just like MasterCard says, priceless. All the news here folks. If you go to GOOGLE and type in PK5590CL you gotta ask yourself why are all these companies telling me how great this thing is, it actually never existed. Old news, Summer 2006 April 2007: I have received an update from DSC as to the status of this device, as they are not impressed with my comments above. They are looking to have this unit in production some time this summer, that is to say After June 21, 2007 and before Christmas 2007. I'm ready May 2007: Still Waiting |

For those of you looking for industrial plugs, check out this Pin and Sleeve Devices PDF
Feb 5th, it's so cold up here in Canada today that we have 2 candles burning in the igloo......
Did you know, that depending on where you live, there is either a mandated law, a by-law, law, in-law, building code law, provincial. state, or regional law that you are to have a Carbon Monoxide Detector on each floor, or outside a bedroom door ? Not to be confused with the smoke detectors. Now up until a few years ago, these units were really exspensive, and consumed a lot of power, but capitalism and free enterprise has prevailed again, and they changed the technology, so they work on a 9 volt battery for more than 10 minutes. They also come as plug-ins to the wall, with battery backup, and some of them can be connected to your alarm panel. And they dropped the price, big time, as in half. So now you know, you have been told, it's your life, think of the children, I know a low-blow, but it probably is the law where you are sitting, and laws are good for us, unless of course you want to get a Darwin Award this year
Click for Smoke Detectors, Carbon Monoxide DetectorsFebruary, Spring is only 6 months away, things are looking up.
A few of you have been asking how to get their DSC Alarm Panel monitored. Not a problem, all you have to do is set your panel to dial out to a monitoring station and you are ready to rock and roll. I have made arrangements with an installer I use to supply you with this service. Details will be included with every alarm panel. The contract is with him, nothing to do with me, I sell alarms. This service is only available to Canadians, sorry, and costs 21$ a month. I would strongly suggest that before you contact any monitoring company that you get used to your panel before you connect. Most contracts will give a a few (3) false triggers before they start sending you an invoice in the mail each time you false trigger it, and it can add up. If you have any questions, send me E-mail OR call John Damota direct @ 416-984-1160 and ask for the Special Pricing from Baran-Harper You can even visit his website JDI Automation,

X-10, bless them, have announced that the Telephone Responder: TR551, TR16A, PHC05 , which they discontinued 5 weeks ago with their usual charm, have announced that it's back !! These guys are like a bad cold, one minute it's here, next minute its not, and then it's back again. The expected delivery date is a couple of weeks from now, so February. I know I'm sitting on the end of my chair. If you want one, get your orders in, first in first out. And you Sir, from Nova Scotia, looking for 40 of them, who was really upset, I can get them now. I'm impressed.
Just got a recall notice from DSC regarding the FSA210, FSA410,FSB210 smoke detectors made between October 30th 2006 and December15 2006. I will will phone those that may have units with those date codes for replacement
I'm amazed at how many people call up to tell me they have had renovations done and the contractor has plastered over a smoke detector. A good indication of this is you power down your smokes and you get this beeping sound from behind the wall.....
If you can read this, you made it to 2007, congratulations. Start your engines, here we go again, another fun filled year of 'what will the world think of next'
Would like to take a moment to thank you all for your business and laughter in 2006. Shipped over 1500 boxes, not a single shipment 'got lost' in the mail. Excellent Smithers, excellent. Some took a while to arrive, especially the ones with the wrong address supplied, but they ALL arrived. Knowing where you live is a god idea folks. I admit this is not the fanciest web site you will have scrolled into, I like the simple life, just like Paris. If you have a question, send email. If you want, call my cell @ 905-294-6473, but my ears hurt, so I may not answer it. Some people have said that this is a blog site, some like the humour, some don't, to each their own. I enjoy a good laugh, life is just to short. This site is a one man show, and my name is Doug Harper, you can call me Doug, don't call me 'sir' or late for dinner. Been doing this for over 20 years now. I am a legit distributor of everthing listed, dealing directly with the manufacturer. I have a small markup on the products sold. If you think I buy a Leviton wall switch for $1 and sell it for $5, wrong. If you think you can spend 1000$ and get the item at half price, wrong again. Most popular items are in stock. If you see a product without a picture, it means its not in stock and has to be ordered in, you get 5% off. The supply chains are pretty good, usually 24-72 hours. All products are shipped Canada Post/USPS, insured, with a tracking number. If you want to spend more money on freight, let me know, FED-EX, UPS, Purolator, not a problem. Again, thanks for a fun year !!
