Freight Charges

If you would like more information please respond via e-mail to Baran-Harper

Freight, the enemy.

We do our best here to ship the contents at the best price.

Freight is charged by either dimension of the box, or the weight of the box.

International shipments are sometimes repackaged to reduce dimensional size.

Freight is expensive, especially on small orders, as everything is based on the first pound.

We reserve the right on orders to debit your card for additional freight charges as incurred. This happens when you order a couple of boxes of cable and half a dozen batteries, and want them sent FED-EX. Just messes everything up

Bottom line, we charge as close as possible to the freight charges. No Handling charges or other hidden costs. The software is good, but things happen.

Charges are broken up into three main areas:

1: Shipments within Canada

2: Shipments to the United States

3: International Shipments

1: Shipments within Canada

Our standard carrier is Canada Post, Express or Expedited or Regular.

Initial charge of 6$ for anything, anywhere Contents insured Express post is usually next day in Southern Ontario, 1-3 days the rest of Canada

A cheaper route, but slower is regular airmail, or regular ground for Southern Ontario Works out to about 75% of express To keep things simple, a 500$ order will have a 10-15$ freight charge Most orders go out at 7$

AS of Jan 2007, we have modified the order entery screen to let you select a cheaper postage method, called 'drop it in the mail', this will cost you half/third of the usual postage fees, takes a little longer to get to you, and is not insured. In 2006 we shipped over 1500 boxes through the mail system, none were lost. This method works well if you are ordering something small, like a wall plate or a single smoke detector. The box will arrive, do not phone and tell us it got lost and we have to reship

2: Shipments to the United States

We use Express Post, similar to your Priority Mail. Contents are insured, no duty, or administrative charges.

DSC alarm panels, made in Canada are duty free under NAFTA, as is anything made in Canada

Express post takes about 3 to 4 days to reach you. Initial cost is about 8$US and goes up by about a dollar a pound

As of November 2004, the U.S. postal system has changed the rules for shipping to the U.S. when using the Canadian Express Post or Expedited Post. These methods are used by us as we can insure the package and get a tracking number. The minimum dimension of a box to the U.S. is 12.12.1 inch, with an initial cost of about 12$U.S.

I can send FED-EX on your account, or any other carrier.

Express post on orders below 1000$ is a good method of shipment, above 1000$, FED-EX is the usual method. I can also send it ground, about 2 weeks, half the price

3: International

Depends where you are in the world.

IN GENERAL we use Air Mail, about 16$US for the first pound.

For easy calculations, for every 100$US you spend, it will cost you $10US in freight FED-EX, UPS, DHL available. A good measure is they cost twice as much as Air Mail, with the first pound costing 50$. Orders over 1000$ are shipped FED-EX or like, and are fully insured Some countries have restrictions, but in general we ship everywhere
